Swing
by Mark Pirie

Swing

Mark Pirie's new book Swing brings together a group of early stories written in the mid-late '90s that represent a view of young urban living in '90s New Zealand (comic and dark). They are set in the free market society of the time and often portray a certain political and social vent. There are also surrealist/avant-garde touches in pieces like 'White Wash' and 'A Man Is Going to Start Installing Cable In This Suburb Soon'. Swing is an interesting addition to Pirie's work that will interest new and old readers of his verse. The cover illustration is by well-known Canterbury painter, Eion Stevens.
