From Giving Poetry a Bad Name by Mark Pirie

Note on the Door

Pete -
I'm taking the kids -
please don't come after me.

My new address is
164 Mt View Rd
Auckland.

but that's just for
forwarding mail or
anything interesting.

About the bills -
please take care of them.

Our lawyer, Richard,
will be in touch - in fact he's
with me now,

Love always -
     Roxy

(p.s. - it's my new name
like on the back
of those new jeans Richard
bought me recently -
did you notice?)

dying

there's a man killed by a bomb
there's a woman falling from a building
there's a head under the chopping board
there's builder under a pillar
there's a leader that's hit by a bullet
there's a boy that's hit by a car
there's a family lost in a plane crash
there's a youth OD'd on drugs
there's a soldier severed in combat
there's a girl knifed in the street

it's true - there's a million ways to die
and there's a poet writing poems
who does it so well each night
under a sun that is dying too...
